Public Access (Lab) Computers

Where are there public access computers?

There are computers available for general use in the library lab and some of the dormitories. There is a lab with (up to) ten computers in Fisher for science, computer, and publications classes. Lab computers are roughly half Windows 2000 and half Mac OS X. There are networked printers located in the labs and in all of the dorms.

Additionally, there are separate labs for physics, graphics, music, languages, and video editing in Fisher, Farm Cottage, Kellogg, the library, and Liebowitz respectively, and several computers for faculty use in the College Center.

The lab computer wants me to log in. What do I do?

Log in with the name lab and no password.

Where can I save files?

We recommend that you save files over the network to your own computer or minerva. See the section on file sharing to set up a shared folder on your computer. One alternative is to save your files to a floppy disk. This has the advantage of being portable, but it has the disadvantage that floppy disks can be easily damaged. Floppy disks are not very reliable. You can also save files to the Documents folder, but there is no guarantee that they will not be deleted.

How do I report a problem with a computer in a lab?

Send email to ca.
